Therapists and Counsellors

(currently in North/North West London, West London, Hertfordshire, Scotland)
Our list of therapists offering psychotherapy and counselling to people in stepfamily situations is being developed to become countrywide. At present however most are based in London. All listed therapists and counsellors are in private practice and will charge for their services. Fees vary according to the specific therapists fee structure.

North / North West London

Dr. Claire Asherson Bartram BA (prof orgs UKCP, EAGT, AHPP) is a Gestalt based integrative psychotherapist, supervisor and group leader practising in Highgate. She has a personal connection with and professional interest in stepfamilies and has been writing, researching and running groups and workshops on stepfamily issues since 1995. In 2009 she completed her doctorate 'Narratives of Mothers in Stepfamily Situations'. She works with individuals and couples and offers face to face and telephone counselling. Sue Fox (prof orgs UKCP, CAP) is a psychotherapist in private practise based in Northwest London and a trainer, supervisor and group worker at the Institute of Psychosynthesis and Highgate Counselling Centre. She has many years experience of working with families and individuals who have been effected by addiction. Her interest in step families has arisen from both her personal and professional life. Debbie Friedman MA (prof org UKCP) is a psychotherapist working in NorthWest London. She is a trainer and supervisor at the Institute of Psychosynthesis, London. Pauline Latchem (prof org BACP) is a relationships therapist and qualified couples therapist based in North London.  Pauline is deaf and offers therapy in British Sign Language, Visual Frame Signing and Hands On Signing with deafblind people.  Pauline has extensive experience, including work in the voluntary sector, youth and community work, mental health, advocacy, mediation and training.  Pauline practices privately at Clerkenwell and South Woodford, but her work with deaf people often takes her outside of London.  Deaf people in hearing families can be particularly impacted and confused by stepfamily dynamics due to pre-existing isolation and communication issues.  Text 0777 613 3645 (no voice calls or voicemail)  email:  plcounselling@gmail.com

Andy Rushton (UKAHPP, UKCP) is a qualified and accredited counsellor working in private practice in Harringay (N4) and Archway (N19). He has a special interest in diverse families. Having worked as a therapist for many years with young adults, he has observed the way that problems coming from split, step and other complex family structures get passed on into adult life. He grew up in a diverse family himself, with separated parents, step-parent and half-sibling relationships, so has a personal insight as well as a professional interest. Angelika Wienrich BA has a background in Psychology and Research. David Woolfson MBA MBACP is one of the UK's very few anger specialists. He came to this work through his own struggle with loss, anger and pain. David trained initially with the British Association of Anger Management and then at Spectrum Psychotherapy. He works with adults, children, couples and families. Graham Shavick MA (prof org UKCP and MBACP) is a counsellor, psychotherapist and coach practising in Winchester. He previously worked for a MIND organisation, as a bereavement counsellor at a hospice and at the Arbours Crisis Centre. He has personal experience of stepfamily life and wrote a dissertation on men's experiences of their relationships with their children and stepchildren and the meanings they attach within these relationships. Chris Kell BA,CQSW, Dip.Clling. is a Senior Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Her interest in step-families arises from her own experience as co-parent with the father and step-mother of her daughter, over a period of 30 years. Since qualifying as a counsellor in 1986, she has trained as a family mediator, couple therapist, adoption counsellor and sexual minorities therapist. Vicky Cruz B.Ed, (Dip Gestalt, MBACP, Cert Couples, Metanoia) is a gestalt psychotherapist working with individuals (from the age of 14) and couples in Epsom, Surrey, on the NHS and in private practice. She has a background in primary education, specialising in music and has been a single parent to her own 4, now grown-up, children. Vicky has a personal and professional interest in step-families, particularly for the child who falls between the cracks of the ruptured family of origin and the newly created family.
