Therapists and Counsellors

(currently in North/North West London, West London, Hertfordshire, Scotland)
Our list of therapists offering psychotherapy and counselling to people in stepfamily situations is being developed to become countrywide. At present however most are based in London. All listed therapists and counsellors are in private practice and will charge for their services. Fees vary according to the specific therapists fee structure.

North / North West London

Dr. Claire Asherson Bartram BA (prof orgs UKCP, EAGT, AHPP) is a Gestalt based integrative psychotherapist, supervisor and group leader practising in Highgate. She has a personal connection with and professional interest in stepfamilies and has been writing, researching and running groups and workshops on stepfamily issues since 1995. Amely Becker (prof orgs UKCP, EAGT, AHPP) has been drawing much of her life's orientation and inspiration from the Gestalt perspective and methodology, and also from Eastern thought, mainly through Tibetan Buddhism. She completed her Gestalt Psychotherapy training in the late 80's at the Gestalt Cetnre London, and has since then maintained a private practice. Sue Fox (prof orgs UKCP, CAP) is a psychotherapist in private practise based in Northwest London and a trainer, supervisor and group worker at the Institute of Psychosynthesis and Highgate Counselling Centre. She has many years experience of working with families and individuals who have been effected by addiction. Her interest in step families has arisen from both her personal and professional life. Graham Shavick MA (prof org UKCP) is a counsellor, psychotherapist and coach practising in North Finchley and Central London. He previously worked for a MIND organisation, as a bereavement counsellor at a hospice and at the Arbours Crisis Centre. He has personal experience of stepfamily life and wrote a dissertation on men's experiences of their relationships with their children and stepchildren and the meanings they attach within these relationships. Andy Rushton (BACP) is a qualified and accredited counsellor working in private practice in Kentish Town, North London and Old Street near the City of London. He has a special interest in diverse families. Keren Smedley is an accredited member of the British Association of Coaching and Psychotherapy, and Member of the Association for Coaching. She has been practicing for over 25 years. Angelika Wienrich BA has a background in Psychology and Research. She is a Gestalt based integrative Psychotherapist and has been practising, and teaching for over 20 years in the field of counselling and personal development. She worked in the NHS and was a tutor at the Gestalt Centre in London for 15 Years. She is also involved with teaching creative writing and Playback Theatre. Hertfordshire

Chris Kell BA,CQSW, Dip.Clling. is a Senior Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Her interest in step-families arises from her own experience as co-parent with the father and step-mother of her daughter, over a period of 30 years. Since qualifying as a counsellor in 1986, she has trained as a family mediator, couple therapist, adoption counsellor and sexual minorities therapist.
